Description

What it is

RELIANCE ERYTHROPOIETIN INJECTION 4,000 IU contains erythropoietin (epoetin), a man-made version of the natural hormone that tells the bone marrow to make red blood cells.

What it is used for

It is used to treat anaemia (low red blood cells) caused by chronic kidney disease, and in some people having cancer chemotherapy, to reduce the need for blood transfusions.

How to use it

It is injected under the skin or into a vein by a doctor, nurse or trained health worker, or by you after proper training, exactly as prescribed. The dose depends on your weight and blood tests. Store it in a fridge (2 to 8°C), do not freeze it, and do not shake it.

Cautions

It needs regular blood tests to check your haemoglobin, and your doctor may also give you iron. It can raise blood pressure, so have it checked regularly and tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, seizures, or a history of blood clots or stroke. Seek urgent help for chest pain, severe headache, confusion, fits, or pain and swelling in a leg. Tell our pharmacist about any other medicines you take, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
