Description

Erythrofex (Erythromycin) Tablets x 10 is an antibiotic medicine that contains erythromycin. It is supplied as a pack of 10 tablets.

What is Erythrofex?

Erythromycin belongs to the macrolide group of antibiotics. It works by stopping bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

What Erythrofex is used for

• Chest and throat infections, including some types of pneumonia
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Whooping cough (pertussis) and diphtheria
• Some sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia
• An alternative for some infections in people who are allergic to penicillin

How to take Erythrofex

Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor and follow the leaflet in the pack. Some erythromycin tablets are taken before meals, so check the leaflet. Swallow the tablets whole with water. Finish the full course even if you feel better, unless your doctor tells you to stop.

Safety information

• Do not take if you are allergic to erythromycin or other macrolide antibiotics (for example clarithromycin or azithromycin).
• Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhoea.
• Erythromycin can affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation). Tell your doctor if you have a heart rhythm problem, low potassium or magnesium, or liver disease.
• Get medical help urgently for a rash with swelling or difficulty breathing, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or severe or bloody diarrhoea.
• Erythromycin interacts with many medicines, including some statins (simvastatin, lovastatin), colchicine, warfarin, theophylline, carbamazepine, digoxin and ergotamine. Tell your doctor and pharmacist about everything you take.
